International Conference on Complex Orders in Condensed Matter :
aperiodic order, local order,
electronic order, hidden order

September 27 – October 02, 2026

at Evian (France)

The ICCOCM 2026 conference is the second in a series that began in Evian in 2023. The conference aims to foster collaborations in the study of complex orders in condensed matter, with a particular focus on aperiodic order, local order, electronic order, magnetic order, and “hidden” order, as well as their influence on physical and chemical properties. At the atomic scale, complexity is characterised by two main parameters: periodic or aperiodic long-range order, and disorder and local order. Structural complexity and its influence on physical and chemical properties is encountered in a broad range of systems and requires an interdisciplinary approach. The conference will review recent advances in this field, with a particular focus on the study of incommensurately modulated phases, quasicrystals and approximants, strongly correlated electron systems, disordered and amorphous systems, and high-entropy alloys and magnetically frustrated systems.

The following topics will be covered : Material synthesis; Structure determination, including average structure and local order as seen by diffuse scattering; Electronic and magnetic orders; Superconductivity; Atomic dynamics; Ferroelectricity; Catalysis and complex structures; Atomic-scale simulation; Machine learning for the study of complexity.

All participants will stay at the VVF Evian and share lunch and dinner together, creating an ideal environment for fruitful discussions and exchanges.

This conference is being organised jointly by Tokyo University of Science, Université Grenoble Alpes, CNRS and ILL. It has received support from the CREST and the Japan Science and Technology Agency. It follows the IRN Aperiodic conferences organized in Octobre  2021 in Carry le Rouet, France. It is a successor to previous  meetings held in Nagoya (2015), Annecy (2017), Sendai (2019), and Evian (2023) bringing together aperiodic and correlated electron communities.

The Call for Abstracts is OPEN !
